The EasterEgg Antenna
Modding a mini donut antenna for an acceptable performance.
The EasterEgg-Antenna
When I first met the little donut antenna, I sensed it was hiding a secret - no this time not the two coils connected in anti-series ;-)
Turns out, it’s actually the coupling coil for the legendary EasterEgg Antenna!
This magnetic broadband loop enhances the original donut’s performance — it boosts the gain and sharpens the directivity and enables this antenna for some indoor and outdoor experiments.
For best results, keep the donut horizontal and the main loop vertical.
My setup works best in the range between 150 kHz and 15 MHz and is made of …
# The original mini donut antenna for the ATS MiniRadio‘s high-Z input
# 1.5mm copper wire 4m in lenght ,
# big loop 2 turns ~50cm ,
# coupling loop 4 turns ~8 cm
# Wago connector
