Following a project we did (130485) that involved an ADS1115 "Ultra-Small, Low-Power, 16-Bit Analog-to-Digital Converter with Internal Reference" from Texas Instruments, we decided to design a more universal board around this chip. Some sort of generic front end for slow (<1kHz) but precise data acquisition (DAQ) systems.

The specifications we start with are (more may be added later):

  • 4 identical channels
  • inputs protected against overvoltage and overcurrent
  • I²C output
  • I²C address programmable with jumpers as the chip allows
  • practical PCB design that can be easily added to a microcontroller system, like a break-out board (BoB)
  • pin header for the inputs

Any ideas are welcome. Post a contribution or send mail with your suggestions to labs at elektor dot com.
