The circuit electrically disconnects the 220VAC line from the load (TV).
It is controlled by an Arduino Nano Super Mini and uses an ACS712-5A to read
the current draw.
STAND-BY KILLER CIRCUIT
The device is designed to electrically disconnect a load (appliance) from the 220VAC power line. This version is designed to control the television.
As you well know, for some years now, television manufacturers have abandoned the use of the mechanical switch, keeping the TV in STAND-BY mode when "off."
This convenient mode allows you to turn the device on or off from the comfort of your armchair.
However, this way, a section of the power supply is always active and constantly connected to the home's electrical line. Aside from the slight but noticeable energy consumption, the risk is that it is always live and, in the event of a mains surge, could damage the television.
The stand-by killer is connected in series with the electrical line that powers the television, and when the TV is off, it keeps the 220VAC line (L & N) open.
By pressing the ON button on the TV remote control, we will activate the 220 VAC line shutdown (the standby killer is equipped with an infrared receiver); a short beep will confirm the operation.
By pressing the ON button again, we will turn the TV on.
When we turn off the TV, the standby killer will detect the decrease in current consumption and will start a countdown for approximately three minutes. At the end of the countdown, if the current has not increased again (TV turned back on), it will disconnect the 220 VAC line.
